NJC student athletes celebrate ‘Petey’s’ awards

On Wed., May 4 Northeastern Junior College (NJC) Athletics held “The Petey’s” Awards in the Bank of Colorado Event Center, highlighting the 2015-16 sports season. Several awards, including some fun ones, were presented to student/athletes and coaches, as well as faculty members. The student/athletes from all sports teams at NJC who were present gathered around faculty and staff members Snow Mekelburg (sixth from left), Annie Shalla (center) and Pam Berns (fifth from right). Mekelburg and Shalla received the “Most Supportive Staff Members” award and Berns the “Most Supportive Faculty Member” award. Bryce Dyer of the NJC baseball team received the “Jake Clifton” award and “Coaches of the Year” were Volleyball Coach Jessica Squier for fall sports, Men’s Basketball Coach Eddie Trenkle for winter sports and Baseball Coach Bryan Shepherd for spring sports. Kyra Mix of the volleyball team received the “Darold Propp Memorial” award. Most Valuable Players for each team were Scott Platt for baseball, Anais Vargas for volleyball, Jessica Renata for women’s basketball, Miguel Ramirez for men’s soccer, Robert Jones for men’s basketball, Samantha Archuleta for softball, Jeremiah Velez for men’s golf and Dallas Tavenner for women’s golf.
