Oct. 8, 2018, Sterling, Colo. – The Plainswomen volleyball team recently played against the Western Nebraska Cougars in a Region IX battle. Sparks fly every time these two teams meet, as both are electric. Additionally, the Plainswomen and Cougars are typically both towards the top in the Region IX South division, so having the upper hand over the other helps out in standings.
The game was what everyone expected as it went to five sets. Western Nebraska won set one 26-24, but Northeastern was able to tie it up after winning set two 25-20. The Cougars returned the favor in set three as they snuck away from the Plainswomen towards the end of the set to win 25-20. In set four, it was do or die for Northeastern, and they buckled down and won 25-21. In the fifth and final set, it was a close set, but the Cougars went on a run and defeated Northeastern 15-11.
The Plainswomen will have a few home games coming up as they host three Region IX opponents on Oct. 11-13.
