Northeastern Baseball Wins Their Home Opener Against Dawson Community College 12-2
The bats were on fire in the home opener for the Plainsmen, as they took down Dawson Community College 12-2 in the first game of the double header on Sunday. Zach McVay was named the DDC Player of the Contest. McVay had an exceptional day at the plate, going 3-3, scoring one run, driving in 6 runs on two triples and one home run.
McVay tripled in the fourth inning scoring three runs, tripled in the first inning scoring two runs and hit a solo home run in the third inning. Northeastern jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first after Brayden Stufft hit a solo home run to left field. The Plainsmen added to their early lead in the bottom of the second after Yusei Uzawa singled to center field, Stufft doubled to right field and Max Valerio doubled, each scoring one run.
Gavin LaMont earned the win for the Plainsmen. LaMont went four innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits, striking out 5 and walking 5. Matt Yarish came in for one inning of relief. Yarish had a flawless inning, giving up no hits and recording two strikeouts. The Plainsmen amassed 12 hits in the contest. Stufft and McVay each had three hits in the contest. Valerio collected two hits in two at bats. Uzawa led the Plainsmen with two walks. Overall, the team had a good eye at the plate, recording 6 walks in total during the contest. Tanner Peerey had two of the team's total of 6 six stolen bases.
