Northeastern Baseball Takes Down Otero College 15-7 In Region IX Home Opener
Northeastern Baseball opened up it's Region IX home schedule against Otero College on Saturday. The Plainsmen took down the Rattlers 15-7 in first game of the four game home stand. Harrison Good was named the DDC Player of the Contest. Good went 1-2 at the plate, hitting one home run, drawing two walks, scoring two runs and driving in three runs. Good also displayed the glove in right field after diving and making a catch late in the game.
The Rattlers were the first to get on the board in the top of the first inning, scoring three runs on a home run. The Plainsmen quickly tied the game back up in the bottom of the first, when Max Valerio went yard to drive in three runs. Otero took the lead again in the top of the second to make the score 4-3. Brayden Stufft hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second to tie the game at four. Northeastern flipped the game on it's head in the bottom of the third, scoring 5 runs on two hits to take the lead 9-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to left field by Tanner Peerey.
The Plainsmen added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth on two hits. Hudson Hoy singled, scoring one and Good homered to center field, scoring three runs. Ondrej Vank started the game for the Plainsmen and earned the win. Vank went four innings, giving up four earned runs on 5 hits, walking three and striking out 9 batters. Evan Lumunyon came in and threw three innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits, walking four and striking out two. The Plainsmen collected 9 hits in the contest. Michael Clarek, Valerio and Hoy each collected two hits for Northeastern. Peerey and Valerio drove in four runs in the contest. Yusei Uzawa paced the Plainsmen with three walks. Overall, the team had a good eye at the plate, totalling 11 walks in the game. Uzawa, Good and Clark each stole multiple bases for Northeastern.
