Northeastern Baseball Earns the 3-1 Series Win Over Luna Community College, Winning Game Four 17-4
Northeastern Baseball took down Luna Community College 17-4 on Thursday. Max Valerio was named the DDC Player of the Game. Valerio went 3-4 at the plate, hitting one home run, stealing two bases, scoring two runs and drove in 6 runs.
The Plainsmen jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Brendan Clelland doubled, scoring one run, Valerio singled, scoring two runs and Zach McVay singled, scoring one run. Northeastern added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Hudson Hoy homered to right field, Tanner Peerey homered to right field and Clelland doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Aniel Del Orbe grounded out in the bottom of the third, making the score 8-1. Four more Northeastern runs came across in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 12-1. Peerey doubled, scoring one run and Valerio homered to right field, scoring three runs. The Plainsmen scored 5 runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth. Peerey singled, scoring one run, Brayden Stufft homered to left field, scoring three runs and Valerio singled, scoring one run.
Cameron Ochoa started the game for Northeastern and ended up earning the win. Ochoa went four innings, giving up one earned run on two hits, walking two batters and striking out four batters. Jose Gomez threw one inning, giving up three earned runs on one hit, walking three batters and striking out two batters. CJ Gonzales threw one inning, giving up one hit and struck out one batter. Keon Bandy threw one inning, striking out two batters.
Northeastern tallied 17 hits in the contest. Peerey led the team with four hits in 5 at bats. Stufft, Clelland and McVay each collected multiple hits in the contest. Yusei Uzawa paced the team with two walks. Valerio led the team with two stolen bases and 6 runs batted in.
