Northeastern Baseball Earns Back-To=Back Victories Over Western Nebraska Community College, Taking Game 2 6-4
Northeastern defeated Western Nebraska 6-4 on Friday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at four in the top of the seventh when Eastin Hubbard singled, scoring two runs.
Northeastern got on the board in the top of the first inning after Brayden Stufft homered to left field, and Riley Suarez hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
The Plainsmen added one run in the second. When Western Nebraska committed an error, making the score 3-0.
The Cougars made the score 4-3 in the bottom of the third after Catcher Gladysh singled, scoring one run, and Harrison Hart homered to left field, scoring three runs.
Suarez doubled to right field, which helped Northeastern tie the game at four in the top of the fifth.
DDC Player of the Game, Callum Baron earned the win for Northeastern. The reliever surrendered two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking one. Payton Denny took the loss for Western Nebraska. The lefty went three innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking none. Gavin Lamont led things off on the mound for Northeastern. The hurler gave up three hits and four runs over three innings, striking out three and walking five.
Northeastern collected 11 hits in the game. Zach McVay, Northeastern's number seven hitter, led the team with three hits in four at-bats. Hubbard and Suarez each drove in two runs for Northeastern. Tanner Peerey collected two hits for Northeastern in four at bats. Northeastern turned one double play in the game. Northeastern were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Nate Glad had the most chances in the field with 11.
