Northeastern Men's Soccer Drops First Game of The Season To North Idaho 2-1
In a gripping day of soccer at NJC Plainsmen Park, the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen faced off against North Idaho in a non-conference match on the evening of August 21, 2025. Despite a sunny backdrop and strong support on home turf, the Plainsmen encountered a tough challenge resulting in a narrow defeat.
The first half was marked by strong defenses with neither side able to break the deadlock, resulting in a halftime score of 0-0. The Plainsmen, led by goalie Samuele Neri, managed to keep the slate clean against aggressive advances. However, the second half brought a quick shift in momentum as North Idaho capitalized on a 15-minute spell to put two goals past Neri.
NJC's DDC Player of the Game, Luca Mammi, fought back valiantly scoring a late goal to bring some hope to the Plainsmen. Despite their efforts, including a commendable 90-minute performance from Harry Marr, his first for the college, NJC was unable to level the score. The match concluded with a final score of NJC 1-2 North Idaho.
Post-game, Coach Westfield reflected on the match stating, 'We battled very hard against a top D1 Juco. We dropped off for a 15-minute spell where we conceded 2 goals. We came back with a goal from Luca, but fell short in the end.' The Plainsmen are now poised to redirect their focus towards their next challenge against Central Columbus CC in Columbus, NE, on August 26, 2025, aiming to amend their current record of 0-1.
