Northeastern Softball Wins Game 2 Of The Double Header over Western Nebraska 16-5
Northeastern easily dispatched Western Nebraska on Tuesady at Sterling, 16-5.
Western Nebraska opened the scoring in the first after Gracie Holm singled, scoring one run.
Northeastern flipped the game on it's head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on two hits to take the lead, 5-1. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two.
Northeastern added three runs in the second after DDC Player of the Game Addison Steele doubled to center field.
Northeastern scored eight runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ryann Mergelman doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored two runs, Kelsi Jurczewsky doubled, scoring two runs, Holm induced America Griffin to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Holm induced Mergelman to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Brooklyn McNeil earned the win for Northeastern. McNeil allowed 11 hits and five runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out none and walking one. Holm stepped in the circle first for Western Nebraska. Holm allowed nine hits and 16 runs (nine earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking nine.
Steele went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with four runs batted in. Brodie Wilcoxen and Steele each collected two hits for Northeastern. Mikey Llamas led NJC with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Marisa Reyes stole two bases. The Plainswomen ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game.
The Plainswomen will travel to Scottsbluff on Wednesday to face off against the Cougars in another double-header.
