Northeastern Softball Shuts Out The Western Nebraska Cougars 15-0 To Open Region IX Play

DDC Player of the Game, Marisa Reyes drove in five runs on three hits to lead Northeastern past Western Nebraska 15-0 on Tuesday at Sterling. Reyes tripled in the first inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the fourth inning, scoring one.

Northeastern won thanks in part to eight runs in the first inning. Kelsi Jurczewsky singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Reina Roberts singled, scoring one run, Tatiana Hunt drew a walk, scoring one run, Brodie Wilcoxen drew a walk, scoring one run, and Reyes tripled, scoring three runs.

The Plainswomen added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Hunt flew out, Wilcoxen walked, and Reyes grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.

Northeastern added two runs in the third. Western Nebraska committed an error, making the score 13-0.

Reyes began the game for Northeastern. The right-handed pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out four and walking five. Abbey Arntsen led things off in the circle for Western Nebraska. The starter gave up nine hits and 14 runs (five earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking seven.

Northeastern piled up 11 hits in the game. Mikey Llamas, Wilcoxen, and Jurczewsky each collected multiple hits for NJC. The Plainswomen had patience at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Wilcoxen and America Griffin led the team with two walks each. NJC ran wild on the base paths, collecting four stolen bases for the game.
