Northeastern Softball Falls To Western Nebraska 10-4, Takes The Season Series 3-1
Western Nebraska defeated Northeastern 10-4 on Saturday at Scottsbluff thanks in part to six runs in the fourth inning.
A single by Kelsi Jurczewsky on a full count put Northeastern on the board in the top of the first.
Gracie Holm singled to left field, which helped the Cougars tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
Northeastern took the lead in the top of the second. Brodie Wilcoxen singled, scoring one run, to give the Plainswomen the advantage, 2-1.
Western Nebraska took the lead in the bottom of the second. Tina Horton homered to left field, scoring two runs, to give the Cougars the edge, 3-2.
Western Nebraska committed an error, which helped Northeastern tie the game at three in the top of the third.
A single by Emma Murdock gave Western Nebraska the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the third.
DDC Player of the Game, Mikey Llamas doubled down the right field line, which helped NJC tie the game at four in the top of the fourth.
Western Nebraska flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, 10-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a grand slam to center field by Holm that drove in four.
Brook McNeil stepped in the circle first for Northeastern. The starter surrendered 10 hits and 10 runs (eight earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking two. Holm started in the circle for Western Nebraska. The hurler gave up seven hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out none and walking five.
Llamas and Wilcoxen each collected two hits for NJC. Llamas, Wilcoxen, Reina Roberts, and Jurczewsky each drove in one run for Northeastern. Marisa Reyes paced the Plainswomen with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing five walks for the game. NJC stole three bases in the game.
The Plainswomen will welcome in McCook Community College on Friday for a home double header, starting at 12:00 PM.
