Bio
Coach Gabe Wiest is entering his third year back at Northeastern Junior College alongside Head Coach Bronson Moton. During his return to NJC, Coach Gabe has helped continue the growth of the program through player development, recruiting, and mentorship. Over the past two seasons, he has assisted in placing student-athletes at every collegiate level, including Division I programs, while also helping mentor an NJC alum who competed in the NCAA Division II National Championship game. His commitment to player advancement and long-term development continues to be a major strength of the program.
Prior to returning to NJC, Coach Gabe was a member of the staff at San José State University from 2022 to 2024. He began as the Director of Basketball Operations before transitioning into the role of Video Coordinator, where he assisted with scouting, film breakdown, player development, and daily program operations at the Division I level.
Coach Gabe previously served at NJC from 2020 to 2022 as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. During that time, he helped recruit and develop multiple Division I players while building a reputation for identifying talent and helping student-athletes advance to the next level both academically and athletically.
Before coaching at the collegiate level, Coach Gabe spent time at Fresno High School from 2017 to 2019. During his tenure, the program achieved several historic milestones, including becoming the first team in school history to win a state playoff game and earning back-to-back state playoff appearances.
Coach Gabe began his coaching career at Fresno Adventist Academy, where he coached from 2010 to 2019 across multiple sports and age levels, including football, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. His experience working with student-athletes from elementary school through high school helped shape his well-rounded coaching philosophy and passion for athlete development.
Originally from Fresno, Coach Gabe earned his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Master’s degree in Sport Psychology from California State University, Fresno. His educational background provides a strong foundation in both the physical and mental aspects of athletic performance, which continues to influence his approach to coaching, leadership, and player development.
