Northeastern Wrestling competed this last weekend at the Mines Rookie Open. Calvin Mendez was named the DDC Wrestler of The Match. Mendez moved up one weight class to the 133 pound division and showed some good adjustments. He went 3-2 on the day.
There were many wins on the day for the Plainsmen. Ryan Escamilla joined Mendez with 3 wins. Cade Liniger, Trevor Hermosillo, Luke Arthur and Rene Perez all gained 2 wins on the day. Teagan Jacobs, Ethan Sinclair, Cassius Garcia and Martin Renteria all were able to gather 1 win on the day.
Coach Duncan explained that the first tournament of the year is always an eye opener for the Freshman coming in to see what the collegiate level of competition is all about. Every point is earned at the collegiate level and you can never relax during your match. Wrestling is mentally and physically tough sport and nothing is given to you, it is all earned.
Wrestling is back in action again on November 8th, at Colorado School of Mines against Snow College and Colorado School of Mines.
