Northeastern Junior College Volleyball Faces Narrow Defeat in Pre-Season Thriller Against Odessa College

On August 23, 2025, in a gripping preseason volleyball match hosted at New Mexico Military Institute, the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen faced off against the Odessa College Wranglers. In a tightly contested match, NJC was narrowly defeated with a final score of NJC 2 - Odessa 3.

The match commenced with NJC clinching a close victory in the first set, outscoring Odessa 25-22. However, the tides turned in the second set where Odessa secured a win with a score of 25-23. Resiliently bouncing back, NJC dominated the third set convincingly with a score of 25-16, showcasing strong offensive plays and scrappy defense. The fourth set mirrored the second set's close competition, but Odessa equalized by taking it 25-22. The decisive fifth set saw Odessa College pulling ahead to secure a win with a 15-10 score, capturing the match.

Sophomore outside Kaitlyn Barnes received recognition as the DDC player of the game, praised for her calm demeanor and strong offensive strategies even as she was heavily targeted by Odessa's serve receive. Although specifics on kills, blocks, digs, aces, and assists weren't available, NJC highlighted that their strategy involved spreading their offense effectively, which became a key factor in their formidable performance during the match despite the loss.

Looking forward, the Plainswomen remain undeterred and ready to confront their next challenge against Eastern Arizona College, scheduled on the same day at the New Mexico Military Institute. Their current record stands at 1-2 for the season.
