Northeastern Baseball Takes Down Western Nebraska Community College In Game 1 6-4

Northeastern was triumphant over Western Nebraska 6-4 on Friday.

The Cougars got on the board in the second inning after Garrison Burns singled, scoring one run.

Northeastern captured the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fourth after Michael Clark grounded out, and George Greene singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Dakota Alber singled to center field, which helped the Cougars tie the game at two in the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, Northeastern broke up the tie when Tanner Peerey singled, scoring one run. Then a double by Aniel Del Orbe followed to extend the lead to 5-2.

Western Nebraska scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a home run to right field by Alber.

DDC Player of the Game, Ondrej Vank earned the win for Northeastern . The hurler allowed six hits and four runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking one. Marshall Forsyth took the loss for Western Nebraska. The reliever went two innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits, striking out none and walking one. Allard Helms stepped on the mound first for the Cougars. The pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Logan Steckel collected the save.

Del Orbe drove the middle of the lineup, leading Northeastern with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Riley Suarez, Del Orbe, Greene, Zach McVay, Peerey, Brendan Clelland, and Hudson Hoy each collected one hit for Northeastern. Northeastern turned one double play in the game. Northeastern didn't commit a single error in the field. Brayden Stufft had the most chances in the field with 10.
