Northeastern Women's Basketball Falls In Final Home Contest To Western Nebraska Community College

On March 1, 2025, the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen faced a tough challenge against the Western Nebraska Community College Cougars at the Bank of Colorado Event Center in a regular season Region IX basketball game. In a neck-and-neck encounter, the Plainswomen were narrowly defeated with a final score of 62-55.

The first half was a close affair with the Plainswomen trailing slightly by one point, 31-30. Despite their efforts to take control in the second half, the Plainswomen couldn't overcome the Cougars, who eventually clinched the victory. Daniela Garcia Gasco shone brightly for the Plainswomen, earning the DDC Player of the Contest title with her impressive performance of 17 points, 6 rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Natalie Moore matched the scoring with another 17 points. Bella Peterson and Abby Leahy contributed significantly as well, with Peterson adding 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, alongside two steals, while Leahy dominated the defensive boards with 8 rebounds.

The game was marked by a special occasion known as Sophomore Night, celebrating the contributions and growth of the team's sophomore players. Despite the loss, the night was a display of strong team spirit and individual performances.

Looking forward, the Plainswomen will next face Lamar Community College on March 7, 2025, in Lamar, CO, for the Region IX Tournament Play-In Game. The team aims to rebound from this defeat and showcase their skills in the upcoming crucial encounter.
